The gifts chosen to represent each year of marriage were selected largely because these items were at that time quite easily available. They were also chosen to symbolically represent the number of years of this successful marriage.
The 7th anniversary is a year where the focus is placed on the intrinsic value of a marriage of this duration. Copper and wool are the items selected to represent the 7th year of marriage. The gifting of wool is to represent the warmth and comfort within this union while an item made of copper is to symbolize the durability and beauty of this long term marriage. Both of these items are symbolic of qualities present in an enduring relationship. The gemstone for this year is Onyx while the symbolic flower is the freesia which represents friendship and respect. Again these are qualities that are deeply rooted in a marriage of this length. The 7 year wedding anniversary is considered a lucky one but this is more for its symbolic connection to the number seven than for any other reason. The modern anniversary list calls for the gifting of a desk set. Wool is a Traditional Symbol of Warmth and Comfort
In old days wool items would often have been made by family and friends to be presented as wedding, anniversary, birthday, and Christmas gifts.
Today wool items are still symbolically given to represent the 7th anniversary year. Gifts of wool symbolize the warmth, happiness, and security that exists within a marriage of this duration. Presents of wool can be blankets, rugs, or other home decor items designed of this material. Personal items such as matching sweaters or slippers are also delightfully acceptable gifts for the seventh wedding anniversary. The luxurious warmth of wool is as comfortable in a log cabin settings as it is in a penthouse apartment. Quality warmth that is enduring. Wool a Symbol Representing Enduring Comfort
Wool is one of the traditional anniversary gifts suggested for the 7 year wedding anniversary. Chosen because of its symbolism of warmth and comfort wool has been around for hundreds of years. Wool items can be decoratively beautiful as a traditional gift of comfort and security. It is an heirloom item that remains in vogue through the passing of time.
Many wool blankets are symbols of a time long past bringing with them a sense of history along with their symbolic meaning of warmth and security. The old style Hudson Bay wool blanket is a gift of distinction and one recognized throughout the world as a quality product while a beautiful wool Buffalo throw blanket is a gift that will stand the test of time. Freesia is the Flower Chosen to Represent the 7th Anniversary
It is an Enchanting Flower Symbolic of Friendship
Each wedding anniversary is symbolically represented by a specific flower. The flower for the seventh is the Freesia its meaning of which is friendship and innocence.
The Freesia is very appropriate for this year as it is the friendship, respect, and trust within a long term marriage which are its greatest assets. Within seven years of marriage a couple has learned to balance the give and take of the relationship and learned to rely on one another in a bond of trust and loyalty. A Beautiful Bond of Shared Memories Loyalty and Love
The metal Copper was placed on the 7th anniversary gift list because it is a symbol of beauty and durability. Both of these qualities are visible within a seven year marriage union and it is why this gleaming metal represents this special year.
By this milestone year couples should have successfully learned to communicate and negotiate with one another within the confines of the marriage. Communication built on mutual respect for one another means that individual as well as joint interests and goals are being worked toward as a team. After passing through the early years of marriage a couple learns through time the give and take that creates a successful union. They adapt to living as a unified team rather than the single entities which entered into this marriage. They have built strength within their bond. The Gem Stone for the 7th Year Anniversary is Onyx
Onyx is a beautiful stone with a wide color variation. This gem is perhaps most recognized for the black onyx prized in jewelry displays but this stone is often found in a semi clear, red, or banded agate coloring. It is a symbol of protection for the relationship.
Onyx stone has been carved and sanded into beautiful art, jewelry pieces, and handles, since ancient times. Onyx is even made mention of within the pages of the bible. In marriage the gifting of the onyx gem stone represents a harmonious relationship safe from hurt and harm. Black Onyx in its absence of color is believed to represent invisibility and offer protection from those who may wish to cause harm. The symbolism of this anniversary gift is that the marriage will be strong, durable, and loving within the safety that this protective stone provides. |
