Summer time fun is great when there is water involved. There are many swim games to play in the pool or at the beach and perhaps a few of the ones suggested here will be used by your little ones this summer.
Whether your pool is shallow or deep, or you are hanging out at the beach, your kids are going to enjoy having a few games for them to play while they are splashing around. Pull out the bathing suits, put on some sunscreen, and get ready to have some fun in the pool. When the summer sun gets hot kids get in the water to play and cool off. Holding one's breath under water for as long as you can, swimming between another person's legs, or staying under the water the longest, are old games which children still play at the lake or in the pool.
Diving for submerged items is another one of the most popular games children play at the pool. A coin, a balloon filled with sand, a small rock, or a disc is used. One person throws it to the bottom of the pool for the other swimmers to dive in and retrieve. Whoever is the first one to bring the item to the surface is the one who wins the right to throw it for the others to retrieve. Now-a-days there are some great children's fishing sets which can be turned into a game for in the pool or lake. Frisbee and beach ball are games of catch that are great for at the lake or in the pool. Swimming to catch these items is always a lot of fun especially the more people that you have playing with you.
Because these items are lightweight, and usually stay afloat, it makes retrieving these toys easy even if you miss the catch. You always win the game so long as you are able to find the ball or flying disc after it is thrown. The game of catch has been around forever and yet no one ever seems to get tired of playing it. Marco Polo is an easy game for kids to play in the backyard, out at the lake, or in the pool. Kids can play this game on land or in water. The only difference is that when the game of Marco Polo is played in the pool kids swim to find each.
In the game of Marco Polo one child is blind folded with a kerchief or small size sleep mask. Whenever he or she shouts out Marco the other kids are obligated to shout back Polo. The blind folded child must catch one of the other children using only the sound of their voices as a means of locating them. When another child is touched by the blind folded person they then trade places and that child will then be blind folded. An Old Fashioned Western Water Gun Fight
Of course a gun fight game in the pool has to be done using water pistols. Good news is that there is plenty of ammo near at hand to keep your gun loaded and firing.
Bad news is that there aren't too many good hiding spots in the pool other than diving under the water for safety. A good old fashioned western gun fight game when you are swimming is more about getting wet and having fun than in who wins or loses. With good reason because it is quite impossible to lose a water pistol fight at the beach or in the pool. Everyone winds up getting wet. For in the water or on the beach another summer favorite is a game of volleyball. Water volleyball is a great game for in the pool or out at the lake. It's a water game that is fun for the whole family. Get your exercise on. and have fun doing it. Jump in the lake after the game to cool off. Chicken Fight Game for the Lake or Pool
The chicken fight game is played in pairs and is best played by teens or adults. It is a game that can get a little rowdy in the pool so is best not played where there are young ones nearby.
One member of each team gets on top of the other member's shoulders. The lower player tries to keep their partner from falling off their shoulders but is otherwise not involved in the chicken fight. The upper players must battle each other in an attempt to knock the other player into the water. Which ever player gets knocked into the pool during the game is declared the loser.
