Banana Nut Bread is different from your traditional yeast bread because it contains a powerhouse of vitamins and minerals within it. The reason for this nutritious boost is largely due the bananas, nuts, and raisins which are added into this heavy bread.
Bananas are rich in potassium and also contain vitamin A, Thiamine, Riboflavin, Niacin, Folic Acid, vitamin C, as well as a wide array of the B vitamins. Bananas also contain Calcium, Magnesium, iron and zinc.
Although this basic loaf smothered in butter is delicious, add walnuts to your recipe and you then have banana nut bread. You not only add extra flavor and a nice crunchy texture but you also increase the health benefits of this snack dramatically.
Although most nuts have a high fat content, the fat in walnuts is good for you as these crunchy treats contain high amounts of Omega 3 fats which are required by your body for good health.
Omega 3-fats can reduce high cholesterol, improve heart health, improve brain and memory functioning, and act as a natural anti-inflammatory for those who suffer from arthritis or other inflammatory based illnesses. To reduce the bad fats in your home use, use one percent milk rather than whole milk, and replace high cholesterol oils with canola or olive oil.
